Round 5 vs Raiders Futsal Club

Another big weekend of matches as we hosted Raiders Futsal Club. We are proud of the fact we try and give all our academy teams games (particularly at home). Thanks to Shellharbour and Russell Vale Junior football clubs for helping fill the void in some of our academy games. The young Taipans had a blast and it was great to see some many kids enjoying this sport.

With the graded games kicking off at 10.00am, our 12 Boys kicked us off and they found themselves in a bit of a dog fight as Raiders were hanging tough. Taipans took a narrow 3-2 lead into the break but two unanswered goals in the second half saw the visitors inflict the boys’ second defeat of the season as they went down 3-4. Levi Martins and Luca Radice-Jones getting amongst the goals.

The 13 Girls have been our form team this year and coach Alan Kent has them playing a very attacking brand of futsal. They were however frustrated in the first half as Raiders scored literally with their only real chance and they dug deep to keep the Taipans at bay throughout the first period. As soon as the Taipans found an equaliser just after the break, the flood gates seemed to open with the girls going in a scoring rampage putting five goals past the Raiders eventually running out 5-1 winners. Indiana Dos Santos continues her goal scoring form with a double with contributions from Beth Atkins, Hazel Atkins and Sofia Kent.

The 14 Boys kicked off out Club Championship games with an emphatic 8-0 drubbing of Raiders. It was 3-0 at the break and the boys went on with the job in the second half to consolidate their position in the top four. Doubles to Matthew Jackson, Jayden Makowski and Anton Radice-Jones were supported by goals to Jayden Bojlevski and Nicholas Panuccio.

The 15 Girls took the court and found themselves 3-0 down at the break after a strong start from the visitors. Credit to the girls though for a good second half where they got the only goal only to see themselves go down 1-3 in a tough encounter. Breeana McCormack getting Taipan’s goal.

The 16 Boys have been in good form and kept some momentum going for the club with a sound 5-1 win over Raiders. Cody Ashburner chiming in with a brace whilst Josh Montgomery and Giovanni Panuccio also getting on the scoresheet. After leading 2-1 at the break, the boys went off to round out a solid win.

The 18 Girls have been a little inconsistent and found themselves 0-3 down at the break after some neat finishes from the visitors. The girls managed to stem the flow of goals in the second half however they were unable to make any inroads into the score subsequently going down 0-3.

With the Youth Men up next, the Taipans momentum looked to have stalled. It was the case with the Youth as well. The game was tight and close and could have gone either way. A late goal to Raiders saw them take out the match 0-1.

The Open Women’s team were left frustrated last week with the goal less draw and that frustration seemed to spill over as they fell 1-3 behind early in the game. Despite trying very hard to claw themselves back into the game, Raiders proved too clinical as they ran away with a 2-6 win.

The Men have not had any luck so far this season. With Raiders racing out to a 2-0 lead, Taipans pulled two goals back before the break through Ricky Goodchild and Matthew Mazevski. With the game in the balance, the Taipans hit the lead with a nicely taken Dion Sterjovski goal. The Raiders however responded with three goals of their own in a see-sawing game. Mitch Ferraro pulled a goal back in power play in the dying minutes but the Taipans just ran out of time going down 4-5.

We pick ourselves up and dust ourselves off as we travel to SD Raiders this coming weekend.
