The day started with a small tournament for our 9, 10 and 11 Boys who got to play three games across the morning. It was a great little hit out that made the trip up more worthwhile.
The graded games kicked off at 11.00am with the 12 Boys starting our day on a positive note. Their 8-3 win was not their most polished performance of the season however it was good to see six different scorers get on the team sheet. The boys jumped out of the blocks early racing to a 6-1 lead at the break but credit to the Crusaders who fought back in the second half.
The 13 Girls continued their unbeaten streak with an emphatic 10-2 win. It wasn’t all plain sailing though. The first half saw the girls frustrated at 2-2. The came out in the second half and kicked off a flurry of goals that killed of any hope Crusaders had. Indiana Dos Santos scoring four whilst Demi Gay also bagged a hattrick.
The 14 Boys were up next, and it was much the same theme. Crusaders hanging tough in the first half where Taipans led 3-2. The boys tweaked a few things in the second half and it seemed to do the trick as the Taipans dominated chances and possession to record an 8-2 win which now sees them sit outright second on the league table.
The 15 Girls picked up their first win of the season with a solid 3-0 win. The girls led 2-0 at the break and went on with in the second to record a handy win and a clean sheet as well. The win sees them move to sixth on the table.
The 16 Boys continued Taipans’ good start to the day going on to win 7-2. In what was becoming a theme for the day, scores were tight at half time with Taipans holding a slender 3-2 lead. The boys took their chances and went on with it putting four unanswered goals past Crusaders. The win sees the boys take top spot in the league table for now.
The 18 Girls were expected to win this game comfortably however things don’t always go to plan. With the one chance they had Crusaders scored and despite several raids, Taipans found themselves 1-0 down at the break. The girls got the break through early in the second and added a couple more goals to record a 3-1 win. They now sit in third spot on the league table.
The Youth Men match was always going to be a tough one with both sides evenly matched. The Taipans led early and kept their lead to the break. Crusaders finding an equalizer mid-way through the second half. In an end to end match, both sides had their chances however the ball just wouldn’t go in and both sides had to be content with a 1-1 draw.
The Women were looking to continue their fine form after knocking off the two top sides in recent weeks. It was simply just one of those days where the girls just couldn’t buy a trick. The huffed and puffed but couldn’t find a way through the resolute Crusaders defense. On another day, the girls would have perhaps have comfortably won this match, but it just wasn’t to be. The draw sees them drop to third.
The Men had a good midweek showing in the Cup match and were looking to bring that into this game. The guys started reasonably well denying the Crusaders a penalty early before taking the lead through Rick Goodchild. The Crusaders found an equalizer in the first half to go to the break all square. Things went south for the Taipans midway through the second as they conceded three quick goals to give the Crusaders a handy lead. The guys went power play late in the game to try and claw the way back however the score blew out 6-1 in the end. It was a lot closer than the score suggested however the guys need to pick themselves up and dust themselves off and go again next week.
Next week, we host Raiders Futsal Club.
